Ward Melville High School sophomore Connor Meehan, 15, of East Setauket, sported the school’s colors with a bright green pompadour and a yellow foam “No. 1” hand on Saturday, while 11-year-old Devi Zavala, of Centereach, dyed his short, spiked locks green.

Each were celebrating school pride at the fifth Ward Melville Homecoming Carnival at the East Setauket high school.

Isabella Amata, of Stony Brook came to the carnival for the pink, sweet, sticky stuff. “The cotton candy is the best,” said Amato, 9.

The carnival featured a pony ride, face painting, temporary tattoos, a dunk tank, bounce house and an inflatable slide.

Ward Melville High School principal Alan Baum, serving food at the carnival, was happy to see so many smiling faces.

“Every year, more and more people come to this carnival,” said Baum. “We wanted something the entire community could celebrate and with things like the dunk tank and pony rides, a lot of people come and have a great time.”
