Athlete of the week is Hauppauge's Vitulano
The feat
Had 11 hits in three games against Huntington. Vitulano went 4-for-4 and hit for the cycle in a 12-1 win April 27 and went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, an RBI and a walk in a 12-0 win the next day. He went 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs in an 18-1 victory April 29.
The quote
"I was feeling great. I took each at-bat separately," Vitulano said. "I am inspired to be the best that I can be."
Fundamentals
Vitulano has played baseball since he was 5 years old, beginning with the Titans summer league. He believes that the most important skill in baseball is hitting and finds his personal strength in fielding. He has "too many superstitions to name" before he steps up to the plate to hit.
What's next
Currently 10-2 in Suffolk League V and 11-3 overall, Hauppauge hopes to set a record for wins after claiming a school-record 22 last season. Islip defeated Hauppauge in the semifinal game last year and the Eagles look forward to facing the Buccaneers again in their last regular-season series May 17-19. Vitulano will attend Iona next year and play baseball.
