It's a chance to meet and mingle with more than 160 authors. The East Hampton's annual fundraiser kicks off with a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception on the grounds, where authors such as Nelson DeMille, Beth Ostrosky Stern, Katie Lee, Dick Cavett and Robert A. Caro will sign copies of their books.
At 8 p.m., the festivities shift into private homes throughout the Hamptons, where individual authors will be guests of honor at intimate dinner parties -- lively conversation practically guaranteed.
2. LAST SUMMER RUN
The oh-so-popular Monday night series of runs in New York State parks winds down for the summer with a final 5-mile event at Jones Beach that's open to single-race registration. A post-race party follows with refreshments and snacks for runners.

3. "FILMS ON FOOD"
"Forks Over Knives," an examination of our everyday eating and its effect on our health, is screened at Cinema Arts Centre with a live video guest appearance by surgeon Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, who is featured in the film. A reception with snacks provided by Whole Foods Market follows.

4. FLORAL DESIGN
It's peak season for flowers, but few of us know how to make a good-looking bouquet. Join Old Westbury Gardens head gardener Scott Lucas, who creates all the arrangements that decorate the historic house, as he conducts a class using fresh-picked flowers from the garden. Reservations required.

5. NORTH FORK CRAFT BEER, BBQ AND WINE FESTIVAL
More than 50 breweries from around the country will set up outdoors at the annual North Fork Craft Beer, BBQ and Wine Festival next weekend. Attendees can taste 2-ounce samples of brews and Long Island wines, lunch is catered by Maple Tree BBQ in Riverhead. The cover band Mystery Play will play live music throughout the afternoon.

6. TOAST ROBERT MOSES
