Aviation museums on Long Island and one in upstate Rhinebeck are creating a coalition to better coordinate marketing and tourism strategies, an idea that first surfaced a decade ago and is now being revisited.

The American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport in East Farmingdale, the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in the Hudson Valley, the Kadish Museum of American Armor, which is at Republic, and the annual "World War II Experience" displayed at Nassau County's Old Bethpage Village Restoration, announced plans Friday to form the New York Heritage Alliance.

Andrew Parton, the Cradle's executive director, said the museums would combine resources and programs aimed at aviation enthusiasts. "We're going to be better served if we pool our resources," Parton said.

Airpower spokesman Gary Lewi said plans for the coalition are being laid and should, well, get off the ground in the spring.
