The Town of Babylon has created a new position within its department of public works.

The position, quality control/efficiency manager, is a non-permanent, one-year contract job, said town spokesman Tim Ruggeri.

The $55,000 contract is renewable for three one-year terms at the discretion of the town supervisor, according to a resolution approved by the town board last month.

The town has hired Vincent Piccoli, who has contracting experience, for the position, Ruggeri said.

Sixteen public works employees retired last year, Ruggeri said, and this position is intended to ensure the department operates smoothly as the town goes through the process of hiring their replacements.

Piccoli will oversee the various trades and establish priority for jobs, Ruggeri said.
