The Town of Babylon has received $5,000 from Suffolk County to install a sign for a veterans’ plaza and host a picnic in honor of veterans.

The town will use $1,500 for a decorative plastic sign at Veterans Memorial Plaza in Copiague honoring veterans, said town spokesman Tim Ruggeri, and the remaining $3,500 will be used for the Suffolk County Veterans Appreciation Picnic on Sept. 24.

The event, at Town Hall Park in Lindenhurst, is co-sponsored by Legis. Wayne Horsley (D-Babylon), who helped secure the funding.

The picnic is free to veterans from Suffolk County and their families and will feature food and musical entertainment, Ruggeri said, as well as vendors specializing in veterans’ issues and needs.
