The Town of Babylon is ceremoniously renaming streets in North Babylon and West Babylon, honoring residents who served their communities.
The stretch of Earl Street between Bay Shore Road and Noble Street in North Babylon will be ceremoniously renamed “Police Officer Andre Menzies Street.”
Menzies, who lived in North Babylon and was a veteran NYPD officer, was killed in November 2010 by an alleged drunken driver going the wrong way on the Northern State Parkway. Menzies, 35, described as a devout Christian and family man, was married and had five children.
In West Babylon, Second Street between 14th and 15th avenues will be ceremoniously renamed “William Arthur Street.”
The request was made by his family to honor Arthur for his many contributions to his community and country. Arthur is a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War and who worked for many years as a civil servant in Suffolk County. He also served as vice president of the Civil Service Employees Association union and as president of the West Babylon Athletic Association.
