The Babylon Town Board Wednesday awarded contracts worth almost $3.5 million to five area construction companies, part of a $22.5 million push to rebuild before Memorial Day town parks, beaches, pools and docks damaged by superstorm Sandy.

Three firms will share work at Cedar Beach Marina, Overlook Beach and Venetian Shores. Wantagh-based Palace Electrical Contractors will receive $1.19 million, Ronkonkoma-based Rockmore Contracting $1.17 million, and Bancker Construction of Islandia $225,000.

Sandy dumped so much sand onto the boat ramp at Venetian Shores Park that it is virtually unusable, Councilman Tony Martinez has said.

J. Anthony Enterprises of Bohemia will get $788,107 for repairs to the fishing piers at Tanner Park. LEB Electric of Copiague will get $91,900 for repairing the park’s electrical system.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will reimburse a portion of the cost, town officials have said.
