Babylon Village will spend about $100,000 on a modular building to replace the old trailer now used for a clubhouse at the municipal golf course, trustees said.

That trailer is 11 years old and showing its age, said Deputy Mayor Kevin Muldowney. “It’s starting to show wear and tear,” he said. “And it’s a tight space.”

The cost could rise if the clubhouse is equipped with such extras as geothermal heating and solar panels, the trustees said.

Muldowney said those advanced energy features could pay for themselves over time in reduced electric bills, but he couldn’t estimate their upfront cost.

Bids on the building, foundation and the sustainable energy features are due Thursday morning. The new building should be ready in the fall, Muldowney said.

Money for the improvements will come from Long Island Rail Road payments to the village for the use of land near the tracks where LIRR has erected a hangar-like wash facility for train cars.
