Babylon Village seeks state aid

Babylon Village is seeking a portion of $1 billion in economic development funding through the New York State Department of Transportation and other state agencies, Mayor Ralph Scordino said.

Trustees at Tuesday night’s board meeting proposed six projects to vie for the funding. They would build or reconstruct the municipal parking lot off East Main Street, the Long Island Rail Road parking lot, an asphalt walkway next to Argyle Park, stormwater filters, the floor and chimney of the historic Nathaniel Conklin House, and bulkheading around Lewis Pond.

Scordino estimated the cost of the projects will total $2 million. Grants administered under the state initiative known as the Consolidated Funding Application would cover half of that amount. The village would issue bonds to cover the rest.

Trustees directed the village engineer to prepare applications for the projects. They also approved “negative declarations” for the projects, affirming for the Department of Environmental Conservation that the projects can be completed without adverse environmental impact.
