Hurricane Irene left many Long Islanders frustrated by blocked roads, flooding and power outages, but some Babylon youth decided to make the best of the situation.
Shannon Hopkins, 15, Kristen Greene, 15, and Meghan Greene, 9, all of Babylon, grabbed their boogie boards and headed for the flooded parking lot off the Park Avenue tennis courts. The trio spent about an hour splashing around in the mud and boarding across knee-deep water, laughing and shrieking the whole time.
“We wanted an adventure,” Hopkins said. “You don’t get a hurricane every day.”
