Ballone pitches brilliantly in West Babylon win

Matt Ballone threw 62/3 innings of no-hit baseball with 10 strikeouts Friday as West Babylon topped Copiague, 5-0, in a Suffolk League IV baseball game. Ballone, whose sacrifice fly in the first gave West Babylon (10-7) a 1-0 lead, lost his no-hit bid on a single in the seventh. Jordan Goldman had two hits and two runs, and Tim Aebli and Andrew Battifarano each had two hits for West Babylon.

Glen Cove 4, Bethpage 1: Chris Theodorou (2-for-4) caught a line drive to start a 4-6-3 triple play in the second inning and Will Kassar (2-for-2) stole home in the bottom of the fourth to lead Glen Cove (7-6-1) in Nassau Conference A-III.

SOFTBALL

Smithtown West 3, Newfield 2: Carissa Kinsella singled home Kayla McCoy in the bottom of the seventh to win it for Smithtown West (10-4) in a Suffolk League III game. Sophomore Sarah Heacox struck out four in a complete game in her first varsity start.

South Side 2, Division 0: Samantha Maselli threw a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts and Lia Stamile had a hit and two RBIs to lead South Side (4-7) in Nassau Conference III.

Kellenberg 5, Our Lady of Mercy 0: Sabrina DeAngelis tossed a three-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead Kellenberg (16-0) in a CHSAA game.

BOYS LACROSSE

Smithtown West 21, Connetquot 4: Senior James Pannell had two goals and two assists, becoming Smithtown District's all-time points leader with 314, surpassing the previous mark of 310 set by Matt Hull in 2007. Senior Matt Schultz had a career-high eight goals, besting Scott Perri's previous school record of seven set in 2007 and Ryan Keenan had a goal and a career-high seven assists for Smithtown West (11-1) in a Suffolk Division I contest.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Our Lady of Mercy 12, Holy Trinity 11: Victoria Courtney scored the winner with 2:25 left for Our Lady of Mercy (1-9) in a CHSAA game. Sam Lynch had three goals and three assists, Madison Marolda had three goals and Grace Morales had 15 saves for OLMA.BOYS TENNIS

Oyster Bay 4, Valley Stream Central 3:Ian Bozsnyak and Chris Sadocha defeated Munib Ahsan and Chris Williams, 6-3, 6-2, in the deciding doubles match to lead Oyster Bay (1-10) in Nassau Conference IV-B.
