Bargnani isn't thinking about his Knicks' future

The 12-49 Knicks, who open up a five-game West trip in Denver today, are evaluating which players on the roster could be keepers for the future. Andrea Bargnani likely won't be on that list because of his injury history and overall disappointing play since being taken first overall in 2006.

"Really right now, it's just about the Knicks," Bargnani said. "It's about the system. It's about my teammates. It's about playing hard every single game to try to finish the season as good as we can as a team. It's all about the team right now."

The truth is, it's somewhat surprising that Bargnani, who has played 52 games of a possible 143 games with the Knicks, is still with the team.

The Knicks gave up a lot to get Bargnani in 2013, including a 2016 first-round pick and two second-rounders.

They were trying to deal him before last month's trade deadline, but Jackson said there wasn't interest in Bargnani.

There were rumblings the Knicks would buy him out, but Jackson said they needed scoring with Carmelo Anthony undergoing season-ending surgery.
