Carl Pavano fired a four-hitter and Justin Morneau and Denard Span homered yesterday to lead Minnesota past host Philadelphia and Roy Halladay, 4-1.

Pavano (8-6) walked none in his ninth career complete game, allowing only a homer by Wilson Valdez. "Pavano was fantastic," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "That's an unbelievable lineup they have over there.''

Halladay (8-6) allowed 11 hits and struck out eight in eight innings in losing for the third straight start. He has yielded 10 runs and 19 hits, including five homers, in 14 innings in his last two starts.

Marlins 4, Rays 1

Josh Johnson (8-2) struck out nine in eight innings and outpitched David Price (10-3), who struck out nine in six innings. Wes Helms hit a two-run homer for host Florida.

Red Sox 2, Dodgers 0

Clay Buchholz (10-4), Daniel Bard and Jonathan Papelbon combined on a four-hitter as host Boston swept the series and earned its sixth straight win. Dustin Pedroia had three hits, including an eighth-inning triple. He also stole second twice and took third on one of them after seeing that the Dodgers, playing an infield shift with David Ortiz at-bat, had no one covering the bag.

Braves 8, Royals 5Eric Hinske's two-run double broke an eighth-inning tie and Chipper Jones had three RBIs in host Atlanta's fifth straight win.

Giants 9, Blue Jays 6

Freddy Sanchez, Pat Burrell and Aubrey Huff homered for visiting San Francisco.

Rangers 5, Astros 4

Josh Hamilton had five hits, including a tying single in the ninth and a go-ahead single in the 10th, for visiting Texas.

Cubs 12, Angels 1Derrek Lee had four RBIs for host Chicago.

Athletics 3, Cardinals 2Kevin Kouzmanoff had four hits for visiting Oakland.

Pirates 5, Indians 3Pedro Alvarez's sacrifice fly in the eighth drove in the go-ahead run for host Pittsburgh.

White Sox 6, Nationals 3Paul Konerko drove in three runs for visiting Chicago.

Tigers 3, Diamondbacks 1Late home runs by Brennan Boesch and Carlos Guillen rallied host Detroit.Brewers 6, Rockies 1Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart hit two-run doubles in a five-run ninth for visiting Milwaukee.
