Jayson Werth hit two homers, including a grand slam, and Yunel Escobar had the game-winning RBI in the 11th inning as the Nationals earned an 8-7 victory over the Phillies last night in Philadelphia.

Pinch hitter Danny Espinosa led off the 11th with a walk, moved to second on Cameron Rupp's passed ball and went to third on Anthony Rendon's single. Espinosa then scored on Escobar's high chopper to second base off Luis Garcia (3-5).

The groundout made a winner of Jonathan Papelbon (4-2), who blew a save for the first time this season by allowing Freddy Galvis' solo homer in the 10th. "Hanging split right down the middle," Papelbon said.

Rendon homered and had four hits and Bryce Harper also homered for the Nationals, who remain 91/2 games behind the Mets in the NL East.

"There's a sense of too little, too late," Werth said. "Anything can happen, of course, but it's been a tough go."

Dodgers 4, Rockies 1: Clayton Kershaw (14-6, 2.12) won his ninth straight decision, Justin Turner hit a tiebreaking double and rookie Scott Schebler homered for host Los Angeles.

Giants 5, Reds 3: Matt Duffy had two doubles and two RBIs for host San Francisco.

Twins 7, Tigers 1: Eduardo Escobar homered and drove in two runs and Tyler Duffey gave up a run in 61/3 innings for host Minnesota.

Rangers 5, Astros 3: Host Texas moved within a half- game of AL West-leading Houston as Prince Fielder hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth inning in the opener of a four-game series. Mitch Moreland hit his team-leading 20th home run for the Rangers, who have won four straight against the Astros and lead the season series 9-4.

Indians 8, Royals 3: Carlos Carrasco (13-10) overcame a home run on his first pitch of the game, pitching six innings for host Cleveland. Lonnie Chisenhall drove in three runs.

Orioles 2, Red Sox 0: Kevin Gausman pitched six innings of two-hit ball to earn his first victory in six weeks and Adam Jones had two RBIs as host Baltimore won for the fifth time in six games. -- AP
