Batman and Robin
Receivers coach Shawn Jefferson sees third-year receiver Adonai Mitchell as ready to put on a cape and become the perfect superhero sidekick for Garrett Wilson.
“If he continues on this trajectory,” Jefferson said of Mitchell, “he’ll be a really good Robin for our Batman.”
Asked how Batman is doing, Jefferson said, “Batman is back to himself.”
Wilson, who missed 10 games last season, is set to play for the first time in more than nine months in Friday’s contest against Tampa.
“It’s good to get him back on the field,” Jefferson said. “Our whole offense is energized when he’s out there on the field. He’s kind of that player when everything’s going awry we need somebody to make a play, boom, he makes that play and calms the storm.”
Jefferson noted that Wilson has become more of a “vocal leader.” Wilson, entering his fifth season, said he’s more comfortable speaking up now.
“I feel like when something needs to be said, you got to say it,” Wilson said. “You don’t want to miss your moment. You don't want to miss a chance at success when you feel like something didn't get said when it needed to be addressed.
“When I do think there's something that needs to be said, I feel really comfortable saying that. Hopefully my teammates like what I do enough, and they respond to it. It comes with time. I feel like I’m there.”
