It's no secret that Allison and John Pfeffer, the married brain trust behind Bay Shore lacrosse, have ong been considered trailblazers in the sport, but Thursday, their status as Long Island icons received just the tiniest boost.
The duo, piloting a team that is now 13-1 and a favorite in Suffolk Division I, won their 300th game in a 19-4 win over Floyd Thursday. Let's hear what they have to say:
I am a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ. A favorite verse of mine is Colossians 3:23 – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord not for men."
I could not have accomplished this without my husband John, we both coach this team. He has an incredible mind for coaching and is a master at strategy.
John and I never played lacrosse. We were very fortunate to have two former US Squad Team members coach with us. Karen Schnellenbach (Penn State) coached with me during the 1992 (1st varsity season) and 1993 seasons. Laura Harmon-Schuman (Maryland) coached with us from 1998-2003. They are both from Pennsylvania and were both instrumental in our success.
And of course “our girls”. My husband and I have a strong “old-fashioned” work ethic. Because, we are old! From the start, the girls responded when we said “Hard work pays off on the field and in the classroom.” Year after year, they meet the challenge both athletically and academically.
We could not be prouder of them!
Somehow, we don't think the Pfeffers are quite done...
