Bayville beach getting new restrooms

A proposed restroom facility will be ready this summer to meet the needs of Centre Island Beach patrons who would otherwise be without one after winter weather destroyed a similar structure, Town of Oyster Bay officials said.
The new facility, which will also house a lifeguard and first-aid station, will be about 360 square feet and is estimated to cost about $250,000, said town spokeswoman Phyllis Barry. It likely will be constructed of concrete and will be built on the bayfront of the Bayville beach, she said.
The project contract is set to go out to bid at the start of the new year, she said.
The town board of trustees approved the facility's specifications and estimated cost at a meeting Tuesday.
The former restroom facility, located on the Long Island Sound front of the beach, was brought down by severe winter weather several years ago. All that remains is the foundation, and building on that side of the beach requires state Department of Environmental Conservation approval that town officials are still seeking, Barry said.
The new facility on the Oyster Bay Harbor side would be on town property and would not need DEC approval, she said.
