Special elections will be held Saturday in two newly created special erosion districts in Southampton Town where voters will be asked to approve spending on beach erosion control measures over the next 10 years.
Polling in both districts will be held in Southampton Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Southampton Town Clerk Sundy A. Schermeyer is sending notices to eligible voters in each district, and advising them on how to request an absentee ballot because many summer homeowners are not expected to be in Southampton on the day of the vote.
Bridgehampton erosion district residents will be asked to approve a levy of $13,143,350, while Sagaponack residents will vote on a levy of $13,364,500. The money will be used to move sand to the beach when needed, and to monitor beach conditions as required by FEMA.
The elections are independent of one another; results in one district have no effect on the other district.
