As Labor Day gets warmer (expect beach weather to be a very breezy and sunny 80 degrees), just be careful for rip currents.

Even though hurricane Earl was a complete dud, there is a slight risk for rip currents at Atlantic beaches on Long Island and in New York City, the National Weather Service said early Monday morning.

If you're heading out to Jones Beach, keep in mind there's some beach flooding (again, thanks to Earl.)

Even though some parts of Jones Beach State Park remained flooded, damage caused by Hurricane Earl, all the beaches were reopened to swimmers this morning, said George Gorman, a spokesman for the agency.

The entire park, however, will close at 7:30 p.m. instead of midnight, Gorman said.

“The flooding has diminished considerably,” Gorman said Monday.
Areas that remained under water include the West bathhouse and he Pitch and Put golf course, Gorman said.

The floods also caused power outages to the band shell, forcing the cancellations of scheduled entertainment for today, said Gorman.

Otherwise, bring the lawn chairs, sunscreen and stay away from the eastbound LIE for now.
