Belly dance class for cancer survivors
Breast cancer survivors are invited to enjoy a free belly dance class taught by a professional belly dancer as a refreshing alternative to traditional exercise.
The free event, hosted by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Adelphi University’s Alumni House, on 154 Cambridge Ave. in Garden City.
Aviva Khadra, director of the Harem Belly Dance Studio in Baldwin, will teach attendees popular belly dance movements that include hip circles, figure 8’s, crescent moons, hip twists, undulations, shimmies. The class is meant to provide confidence, boost sensuality and make working out fun, organizers said.
No dance experience is necessary, but attendees should wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring water. Reservations are required; call 516-877-4325.
The breast cancer program, established in 1980, provides information and support to breast cancer patients, their families and friends. For more information, call the hotline at 800-877-8077 or visit adelphi.edu/nysbreastcancer.
