Big 10: Top teams growing in Garden City

The six-time defending state Class B champs improved to 5-0 and move into the top spot of the Big 10. The Trojans have won 53 straight games. Alexandra Bruno has totaled at least five points in each of the last four games, and Garden City has outscored its last four opponents 72-11. The Trojans are ranked No. 2 in the country by ESPN Rise.

After already passing tough non-league tests against Ward Melville and Syosset, as well as a win over league opponent Long Beach, the Trojans put themselves in the discussion for best team in the country yesterday by beating the No. 1 team in the nation, Conestoga (Berwyn, Pa.).

The Trojans remain perfect in the conference and are flexing their muscle at the Long Island level, as Jen Gerland won the open 2,000 steeplechase in the Steeplefest Invitational at Port Jefferson.

CHAMINADE BOYS LACROSSE

The Flyers' string of victories over top opponents on and off the Island continued with a superb performance in a 15-8 victory over perennial power Yorktown. Ryan Lukacovic had two goals and three assists, and Tom Zenker had four goals. Chaminade then blitzed Greenwich (Conn.), 11-3, building an 8-1 halftime lead.

ST. ANTHONY'S BOYS TRACK

The Friars had a strong showing in the CHSAA Easter Classic on Tuesday. Michael Chaney (16.4) and Cameron Black (16.7) went 1-2 in the 110 hurdles and James Adegbute won the 200 meters in 22.5 seconds to lead St. Anthony's.

ST. ANTHONY'S GIRLS LACROSSE

Their 5-0 record includes impressive wins over nationally ranked opponents Manhasset and Chatham (N.J.), which affirmed St. Anthony's No. 4 ranking. Chrissy Schreiber had four goals and two assists in an 18-4 win over St. John the Baptist.
