Bigger Great Neck Library to be discussed
A public hearing will be held June 14 on the Great Neck Library’s plans to expand its main branch.
The site plan review hearing will be part of the North Hempstead Town Board’s meeting, at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 220 Plandome Rd. in Manhasset. If the site plan is approved, the library will ask voters to approve funding, library director Jane Marino said.
Construction for the project, estimated to cost about $22.5 million, would take about 18 months to complete, she said.
Plans call for expanding the building, at Bayview Avenue and Bluebird Drive, from 47,000 square feet to nearly 56,000. Marino said a space for teens would be created and that the children’s section, audiovisual and community meeting spaces would be increased.
In March, the Town of North Hempstead’s Board of Zoning and Appeals approved variance requests for fewer and smaller parking spots than required. On-street parking is available nearby.
