Bike team to ride for charity

With spring just around the corner, many people are gearing up for outdoor weather. But Physical Therapy and Beyond in East Setauket has an extra-special reason to prepare.

The business is strumming up support for its “Team in Training,” a sports charity program started by the National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Physical Therapy and Beyond is forming a team of cyclists who intend to ride 100 miles from Babylon to Montauk on June 18.

Physical Therapy and Beyond owner Cindi Lattanzio said that she’s riding. She felt she needed to participate after losing one of her patients to leukemia earlier this year. She has already started working out with her teammates, riding long distances in Yaphank.

“It’s such a great cause,” said Lattanzio. She has been involved with Team in Training since 2007, when a patient encouraged her to lecture some cyclists before a ride. She has been giving free lectures to cyclists once every three months since then, talking about everything from the importance of warming up and cooling down, to the prevention and treatment of cycling-related injuries.
