On Black Friday, the Brookhaven Animal Shelter would like you to consider adopting a black kitty cat -- or any of their furry friends.

The shelter hopes to adopt all 10 of its black cats on a day known for shopping bonanzas, and is slashing adoption fees to $5 for those special kitties.

"Instead of going to the crowded stores on Friday, I encourage residents to come to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter to adopt a new member of their family," Town Supervisor Mark Lesko said in a release.

The black cats will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. The shelter's other animals are also available for adoption. Fees cover a starter kit with food, a litter box and liner, scoop, and bowls.

The Black Cat Friday event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shelter at 300 Horseblock Rd.
