Blighted barn to be razed in Mastic
Brookhaven Town is replacing a dilapidated sand-and-salt highway department barn in Mastic near William Floyd High School.
The old barn, near the intersection of Francis Landau Drive and Mastic Beach Road, is blighted and has outlived its usefulness, town officials said. It is next to the new Keith Romaine Memorial Skate Park and “casts a shadow on the recently created beautiful recreational improvements,” Councilman Daniel Panico said.
It will be demolished within a month, he said.
A new structure has been built next to the old barn at a cost of $600,000, said an aide to Panico.
Highway Superintendent John Rouse said the new barn will be safer for highway workers.
The facility will “guarantee their safety and the safety of the community,” he said.
