Blog highlights unrest in Port Jeff
Early indications of unrest in the Port Jefferson School District, where the school budget was soundly defeated, could be found on a blog called Port Jefferson Families for Change, also known as PURE.
Comments in the months leading up to the vote blasted the school board leadership and rallied residents to vote down a spending plan that would have raised the district's tax levy by 3.47 percent. And so they did, with 1,052 against and only 584 in favor. Port Jeff's budget was one of only 10 to fail across Long Island.
PURE says it's open to anyone in the community. Even candidates running for the school board chimed in.
Now that the budget has been defeated, will the blog continue?
You betcha.
