Bloomberg supports same-sex ceremonies plan
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he supports City Clerk Michael McSweeney's new plan to offer ceremonies to same-sex couples seeking domestic partnerships.
Couples who get married at City Hall or the city clerk's offices in the five boroughs are offered ceremonies. Bloomberg said there's no reason same-sex couples shouldn't be offered the same thing.
The change takes effect June 3.
Same sex couples are not allowed to marry in New York. But they may register as domestic partners and receive some of the same benefits as married couples.
Bloomberg has long supported same-sex marriage. - AP
