Colby Rasmus hit a two-run homer and Brett Cecil won for the first time in almost a year as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-2, yesterday to complete a three-game sweep in Toronto.

Rasmus went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, scored twice and came within a triple of the cycle.

The Blue Jays swept the Phillies for the second time in team history; they also swept a three-game series at Philadelphia in 2009. Philadelphia, the last-place team in the NL East, lost for the 12th time in 15 games.

Phillies designated hitter Jim Thome led off the second with a home run to right. It was his 100th homer for Philadelphia, making him the fourth player in major league history to hit at least 100 home runs with three different teams. Darrell Evans (Atlanta, San Francisco and Detroit), Reggie Jackson (California, Oakland and the Yankees) and Alex Rodriguez (Seattle, Texas and the Yankees) are the others.

Rays 3, Marlins 0: Alex Cobb pitched two-hit ball for seven innings and B.J. Upton homered for host Tampa Bay. Cobb (3-3), who had lost his previous three starts, struck out a career-high 10. Marlins starter Josh Johnson (4-5), who allowed two runs in six innings, suffered his first interleague defeat since June 23, 2007, against Minnesota, a stretch that included six wins in nine starts.

Red Sox 7, Cubs 4: David Ortiz homered and Ryan Kalish had a tiebreaking RBI single in the seventh inning as Boston won at Wrigley Field.

Pirates 9, Indians 5: Pedro Alvarez drove in a career-high six runs with his second two-homer game in two days for visiting Pittsburgh, which took two of three for its sixth series win in the last seven chances.

Twins 5, Brewers 4: Denard Span had an RBI single with two outs in the 15th inning for host Minnesota in the longest game played (4 hours, 50 minutes) at 21/2-year-old Target Field.

Tigers 5, Rockies 0: Max Scherzer struck out 12 in eight innings and rookie Quintin Berry had a career-high five hits for host Detroit.

Royals 5, Cardinals 3: Yuniesky Betancourt hit a two-run homer with two outs in the 15th inning for visiting Kansas City.

Rangers 9, Astros 3: Ian Kinsler hit a three-run triple and Adrian Beltre added a two-run homer to highlight a seven-run sixth for host Texas.

Dodgers 2, White Sox 1: Juan Rivera tied the score in the ninth with a sacrifice fly -- three innings after the Dodgers had one taken away on an appeal play -- and Dee Gordon singled home the winning run in the 10th for host Los Angeles.

Angels 2, Diamondbacks 0: Garrett Richards pitched four-hit ball into the ninth inning of his sixth career start and Albert Pujols homered for the host Angels, who have won 18 of 24.

Padres 2, Athletics 1: Clayton Richard scattered five singles in 72/3 innings as host San Diego snapped Oakland's five-game winning streak.

Mariners 2, Giants 1: Justin Smoak's one-out single in the ninth drove in pinch runner Munenori Kawasaki from second for host Seattle. -- AP
