Brett Favre said in no uncertain terms this past week that he's not playing in 2011.

"I'm done, I'm done," he said when asked about his plans for next season.

OK, OK. We've heard this once or twice - or is it three times? - before. Favre announces retirement . . . has second thoughts . . . finds a team interested . . . and poof! - he's back for one more year.

But this really could be it for Favre. After all, he's 41, has battled ankle problems all season and is in the midst of his worst statistical season. At his current pace, he'll end up with just 15 touchdown passes and 25 interceptions.

Chances are the Vikings aren't even interested in having Favre come back, not after paying him $20 million for a brutally ineffective season. And if the Vikings don't want him, who will?

"I don't know how the remaining games will unfold," said Favre, who will make his 297th consecutive start today against the Bills. "But that's it."

Sounds like a plan.

Cassel: Underappreciated and underrated

It wasn't long ago the Chiefs were being second-guessed for acquiring former Tom Brady backup Matt Cassel before the 2009 season. Cassel wound up with just 16 touchdown passes and 16 interceptions last year, this after signing a six-year, $62.7-million contract in July 2009.

But Cassel has enjoyed a terrific year so far, and is a major part of the team's 7-4 record and first-place standing in the AFC West.

Cassel is coming off a four-touchdown performance against the Seahawks, has thrown 127 straight passes without an interception, and has 22 touchdowns with just four interceptions. His 99.7 passer rating trails only New England's Tom Brady (105.8) and San Diego's Philip Rivers (104.9).

'It's all good'

Bills third-year receiver Steve Johnson, who dropped what would have been the winning touchdown in overtime against the Steelers last week, created a stir when he posted a Twitter message that made it to the talk show circuit.

"I praise you 24/7!!!!!! And this how you do me!!!! You expect me to learn from this??? How ???!!! I'll never forget this!! Ever!!! Thx tho . . ."

The assumption was that Johnson was blaming God for the drop, and the tweet was discussed on the Rush Limbaugh radio show and "The View." Even late-night host Jimmy Kimmel cracked, "By the way, if God cared about you at all, he wouldn't have you playing for the Bills."

Johnson subsequently said he was stunned by the reaction, and he wasn't blaming God, he was simply complaining to God about how he missed the opportunity.

Johnson made light of the incident when he showed up at a news conference a few days after the game wearing a T-shirt that read: "It's all good."

Peyton's place

Peyton Hillis has made quite an impression since joining the Browns this year in a trade with the Broncos. The 6-1, 240-pound bruiser leads the Browns with 905 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns.

He joined Hall of Fame running backs Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly as the only Cleveland runners to get 11 rushing touchdowns in a season.

Hillis' reaction? "That's absurd," he said. "Those guys are legends, and I'm nobody."

Hillis was dealt to the Browns from Denver for quarterback Brady Quinn, who hasn't played this season.

Bradford's key stat: wins

Rams quarterback Sam Bradford is on pace to establish several rookie passing records, including attempts, completions, yards and touchdown passes. So far, he has thrown for 2,466 yards, 17 touchdowns and only nine interceptions to go with an 82.0 rating.

But there's really only one number that Bradford is concerned with: wins. So far, the Rams are 5-6, which is actually good enough to share the NFC West lead with the Seahawks.

"The bottom line is, I'm here to help this football team win," Bradford said. "If we're not winning, then I'm not doing my job. I think everyone around me, my family and my friends, they've known me for a long time and they know that's the way I feel. I really don't get into anything other than wins and losses."
