Babylon Town will finance road reconstruction and improvements to Geiger Park with $9 million in bonds that the board authorized Monday.

The $3 million for Geiger Park represents the first major investment in the park in a decade, outgoing Supervisor Steve Bellone, above, said. The money will go toward landscaping as well as construction of bathrooms and a spray park. Similar work has been undertaken at most of the town’s other parks and playgrounds.

A team from the Department of Public Works will decide how to allocate the $6 million being issued for reconstruction of the town’s 550 miles of roads. Projects could range from filling cracks in asphalt to full repaving, but Bellone said he didn’t yet know which roads would be affected. The town typically bonds $5 million to $8 million a year for road reconstruction, he said.

Monday’s meeting was specially scheduled to wrap up town business before the year’s end. Another meeting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Thursday, when the board will take up zoning changes for Frontier Park, a North Amityville mobile home park targeted for redevelopment.
