The LongHouse Reserve, the East Hampton home of textile designer Jack Lenor Larsen, is now being celebrated in a new book -- "Jack Lenor Larsen's LongHouse" (Chronicle, $50).
The book features 220 photos by Molly Chappellet telling the story of the 15-acre property where Larsen lives, gardens and welcomes the public in (including thousands of school children) to walk through the land, see outdoor art, take in performances, do workshops and listen to music. One day, Larsen writes, he wants to have an ecologically friendly visitors' center there.
A special edition of the book will feature a Larsen-designed cover of handmade, hand-dyed and hand-folded paper from Japan. It will be available at longhouse.org through July 15 for $75.
The LongHouse Reserve, which is located at 133 Hands Creek Rd., is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 2 to 5 p.m. through the end of June and in September and October (it closes Oct. 9 for the season). In July and August, hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors; children under 12 accompanied by an adult are free.
