Both Baltimore and Washington clinch playoff spots

The Baltimore Orioles won their first AL East crown since 1997, using home runs by Steve Pearce and Jimmy Paredes to beat the visiting Toronto Blue Jays, 8-2, last night and the Washington Nationals are again champions of the NL East, wrapping up their second division title in three years with a 3-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

At Camden Yards, the Orioles gained their ninth win in 10 games.

In Atlanta, Tanner Roark (4-10) pitched five-hit ball for seven innings and Ian Desmond hit a two-run homer.

Pirates 4, Red Sox 0: Russell Martin and Starling Marte homered to back Charlie Morton (6-12) for host Pittsburgh.

Twins 4, Tigers 3: Aaron Hicks hit a walk-off single in the ninth for Minnesota.

White Sox 7, Royals 5: Kansas City relievers Kelvin Herrera (302/3 innings) and Wade Davis (312/3 innings) had their scoreless innings streaks snapped by visiting Chicago.

Mariners 13, Angels 2: Mike Zunino's two-run double keyed a four-run fifth as the visiting Mariners moved within a game of the Royals for the second wild-card spot.

Rangers 6, Athletics 3: Jake Smolinski homered off Scott Kazmir for visiting Texas.

Indians 4, Astros 2: In Houston, Corey Kluber (16-9) struck out a career-high 14 in seven innings to outduel West Islip's Nick Tropeano (1-1), who allowed two runs and four hits in five innings.

Rockies 10, Dodgers 4: Corey Dickerson homered, tripled and drove in four runs as host Colorado snapped a seven-game skid.

Giants 2, Diamondbacks 1: Buster Posey homered to back Jake Peavy (6-4) as the visiting Giants moved within three games of the Dodgers in the NL West.

Brewers 3, Cardinals 2: Carlos Gomez walked, stole second and third and scored the go-ahead run on a bloop hit by Hector Gomez in the 12th for visiting Milwaukee.-- AP
