Talent trampled inexperience for the Hewlett boy’s golf team.

With no seniors on the team, Hewlett coach David Yaker expected a youth movement this season and that’s exactly what he got from his young squad.  The Bulldogs improved to 8-0 and clinched the Conference I title after edging out Lynbrook by one stroke in the aggregate score (224 to 225) at Seawane Country Club on Thursday.

Junior Taylor Heath and sophomore Austin Huth have provided veteran leadership for newcomers Aviad Gamliel, a sophomore who moved to Long Island from Israel, and Michael Kreisman, an eighth-grader with raw talent.

“As the season progressed a couple of my veteran guys who have been playing for so long helped the newer guys to get into that competitive mode,” Yaker said.”  They taught them how to be mentally tough, how to forget about shots and move onto the next hole.  It’s paid off for us in the end.”
