Brain aneurysm walk comes to Jones Beach

The Brain Aneurysm Center at North Shore University Hospital and the Brain Aneurysm Foundation will host the fourth annual Brain Aneurysm Awareness Walk on Saturday at Jones Beach State Park.

Participants will do a two-mile walk or a four-mile fun run for the event that starts at 10 a.m. Hundreds of people are expected to participate, including brain aneurysm survivors and their families. The event will be held rain or shine.

There will be music, entertainment and giveaways, and children can play with pet therapy dogs, get face painting and have their portraits done by a caricature artist.

Participants can register on-site the day of the event starting at 8:30 a.m. at Field 5 on Jones Beach. The registration donation fee is $25 and includes the cost of parking and snacks.

All proceeds from the walk will go to the Brain Aneurysm Center and the Brain Aneurysm Foundation to support research that may help to reduce the incidence of ruptured aneurysms. To preregister for the walk, visit www.bafound.org.

A brain aneurysm is a cerebrovascular disorder that causes bulging and weakness in the wall of an artery or vein that supplies blood to the brain and can sometimes cause stroke, brain damage or even death.
