Brain aneurysm walk set for Saturday
The third annual Brain Aneurysm Awareness Walk will take place Saturday at Jones Beach State Park, hosted by the Brain Aneurysm Center at North Shore University and the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.
Brain aneurysm disorder causes bulging and weakness in the wall of an artery or vein that supplies blood to the brain and can sometimes cause stroke, brain damage or death.
Starting at 10 a.m., walkers and runners will participate in a two-mile walk or a four-mile fun run. Hundreds of people are expected to participate in the rain-or-shine event, organizers said.
Participants include brain aneurysm survivors and their families. Children can play with pet therapy dogs and have their faces painted or portraits drawn by a caricature artist. Participants can register on-site the day of the event starting at 8:30 a.m. at Field 5, Jones Beach.
The registration donation fee is $25 and includes the cost of parking and snacks. All proceeds raised from the walk will go to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation to support research.
