Brendel goal helps Hicksville boys lacrosse win
Matt Brendel took a feed from goalie Anthony Lomangino, ran the length of the field and scored with 2:47 left in the third quarter to break a tie for Hicksville in its 10-8 win over Oceanside Saturday in Nassau Conference A boys lacrosse. Hicksville (4-1) opened the fourth quarter with three straight goals. Oceanside scored twice in the final two minutes. Lomangino made 12 saves.
St. Anthony's 13, New Canaan 8:Thomas Schreiber had his five goals and an assist in the first half to lead host St. Anthony's in the Lacrosse Day of Heroes tournament. Proceeds from the three-game event will go to the families of fallen soldiers. Colin Clive added two goals and two assists and Charlie Raffa was 22-for-24 on faceoffs for the Friars.
Manhasset 9, Darien (Conn.) 5: Drew Belinsky had six goals and an assist for Manhasset (10-0) in the Lacrosse Day of Heroes tournament. Pat Maroney added two goals and Frank Morelli made 10 saves.
girls lacrosseHauppauge 11, Brewster 10: Jennifer Porretto scored with 22 seconds left to win it for Hauppauge (8-1) in non-league. Samantha Losco and Jessica Venturino each scored three goals.
Smithtown East 9, Connetquot 8: Christine O'Reilly's goal with 5:31 remaining gave Smithtown East (1-6) a 9-7 lead in Division I. O'Reilly had four goals and two assists and Ericka Parks made 11 saves.
Floral Park 20, East Meadow 9: Junior Julia Schmidt scored a career-high eight goals and added two assists for Floral Park (5-0) in Conference III. Erin Kelly had three goals and three assists and Jocelyn Penteck had three goals and an assist.
boys trackHills West, SJB, Massapequa win. Half Hollow Hills West's 4 x 400-meter relay squad of Demarr Aultman, Abdias Myrtil, Justin Ma and Dan McCord won its heat at the Penn Relays in a time of 3:20.87. In a separate 4 x 400-meter relay heat, St. John the Baptist's team of Michael Duplessis, Joe Micheels, Seitu Solomon and Hunter Burrell won in 3:22.67. In another 4 x 400 heat, Massapequa's team of Joe Caraciola, Dan Varon, Brian Poole and Nick Delune won in a time of 3:27.14.
