The Los Angeles Angels made their latest big move Friday, acquiring ace pitcher Zack Greinke from the Milwaukee Brewers for rookie shortstop Jean Segura and two minor leaguers.

By winning the sweepstakes for Greinke, perhaps the most-prized arm available before Tuesday's trade deadline, the aggressive Angels followed up a huge offseason highlighted by free-agent stars Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson.

"It should be fun. They are a great team," Greinke said in Milwaukee after the deal was done. "After the first month of the season, they have been one of the best teams in baseball. There is a lot of talent there. A lot of great players. The pitching staff will be pretty incredible."

Greinke joins an outstanding rotation that includes three other All-Stars in Jered Weaver, Dan Haren and Wilson. The Angels began the day five games behind first-place Texas in the AL West but in position for a wild card.

"It's an exciting day," first-year general manager Jerry Dipoto said. "We hope that this move will be not just a short-term gain, but one that's good for the organization. We're excited to see what kind of a difference he can make."

To land Greinke, Los Angeles also sent Double-A righthanders Ariel Peña and Johnny Hellweg to Milwaukee.

Greinke, the 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner, is 9-3 with a 3.44 ERA in 21 starts for Milwaukee this season. The 28-year-old righthander can become a free agent after the World Series.

Brewers 6, Nationals 0: Corey Hart and Aramis Ramirez homered to back Mike Fiers (4-4) as host Milwaukee snapped a seven-game losing streak and ended Washington's six-game winning streak.

Cardinals 9, Cubs 6: Matt Holliday, Yadier Molina and Lance Berkman were part of visiting St. Louis' power show as the Cardinals became the first team in eight years to hit a home run in each of the first five innings.

Matt Carpenter and Allen Craig also connected off Travis Wood (4-6), whose five homers allowed matched the Chicago record.

Pirates 6, Astros 5: Drew Sutton scored on a wild pitch in the ninth inning for visiting Pittsburgh. The loss was a franchise-record tying 11th straight for Houston. The Astros, who have baseball's worst record, (34-67) last lost 11 straight in 1995.

Braves 6, Phillies 1: Brian McCann hit a three-run homer off Cole Hamels (11-5), and Ben Sheets (3-0) continued his impressive comeback for host Atlanta.

Padres 7, Marlins 2: Miami's Yasmani Grandal hit a bases-clearing triple and Yonder Alonso drove in two runs for visiting San Diego.

Athletics 14, Orioles 9: Jemile Weeks hit an RBI single to give Oakland the lead during a six-run ninth inning against All-Star closer Jim Johnson, and the Athletics won a back-and-forth duel that featured 31 hits and lasted four hours.

The Athletics led 5-0 in the second inning and 8-6 in the eighth, yet fell behind on each occasion before rallying.

After Baltimore scored three runs in the eighth to go up 9-8, Oakland pounded Johnson (1-1) for six runs on six hits

and a walk in the ninth. The Orioles fell to 41-1 when leading after eight innings.

Chris Carter and Brandon Hicks homered for the A's, who have won 12 of 14, and Seth Smith tied a career high

with five RBIs.
