Brian Hoerter's blocked PAT seals win for New Hyde Park
Brian Hoerter blocked an extra-point attempt with 1:12 remaining to preserve a one-point lead for New Hyde Park in its 21-20 win over Long Beach in Nassau II Saturday. New Hyde Park (5-3) fumbled on Long Beach's 32-yard line with four minutes remaining, leading to a 68-yard touchdown drive by the Marines that made it 21-20. Joe Gardella converted a third-down run for a first down to seal the game for New Hyde Park. Gardella had 121 yards on 14 carries. Rob Mirabile, and Zach Vales and Chuck Chiariello each recorded a sack for New Hyde Park.
Manhasset 30, Bellmore JFK 28: Jack Miller's 5-yard touchdown run followed by Will Theodoropoulos' two-point conversion gave Manhasset (3-5) a 30-22 lead in the second overtime in Nassau II. Lyle Richman's 2-yard run cut the lead to 30-28, but Bellmore JFK's pass attempt for a two-point conversion fell incomplete. Bellmore JFK tied the game with 41 seconds in regulation when Ryder Lampert returned a kick 90 yards for a score. Manhasset ran for 257 yards on 47 attempts. Miller rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries.
Carey 35, Calhoun 14: Michael Catanese completed 11 of 18 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns to lead Carey (6-2). Angelo Cona's 28-yard touchdown run put the Seahawks ahead 35-0 with 9:24 remaining in the second quarter. Carey's Anthony Milan had a 60-yard touchdown run and caught six passes for 111 yards and a touchdown.
Garden City 35, Mepham 14: Brian Haeffner had 126 yards on 19 carries to lead Garden City (8-0). Christian Coppola ran for a one-yard score, Andrew DeSantis had a four-yard touchdown, and Chris Mixon ran for a 63-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give Garden City a 21-0 lead. Garden City's Tim Schmelzinger completed 11 of 14 passes for 128 yards and ran for two touchdowns in the second half.MacArthur 49, Elmont 20: Vin Martino rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries to lead MacArthur (6-2). MacArthur rushed for 296 yards. Martino, Matt DeBlaiso, Dan Joyce and Mike Manfredo had interceptions for MacArthur.
Wantagh 40, Sewanhaka 27: Robert Tucker completed 16 of 23 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns to lead Wantagh (6-2). Bruno Surace's 10-yard run in the second quarter started a run of four straight touchdowns for Wantagh. Kyle Sliwak ran for 181 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries and caught four passes for 50 yards for Wantagh.Westbury 26, Jericho 20: Zach Anderson caught a 47-yard pass from Biron Jones early in the fourth quarter to give Westbury (1-7) a 26-7 lead in its Nassau II win. Jones completed 8 of 13 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns, and Mike Francis ran for 172 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries for Westbury.
