Brian Jockers, Keith Cakayonis combine to give Plainedge its first-ever shutout
Freshman Brian Jockers made 10 saves and sophomore Keith Cakayonis had five to combine for the shutout as Plainedge beat Plainview JFK, 4-0, Tuesday in a non-league boys lacrosse game. It was the first shutout in program history, according to Red Devils coach Gary Levitan.
Nick Frenger had a goal and an assist for Plainedge.
Hicksville 8, Oyster Bay 7: Matt Arnone's goal with 2:50 remaining gave Hicksville a two-goal lead and they held on to win in non-league. Mike Osmundsen scored three goals and Ryan Toomey made five saves for the Comets.
Long Beach 14, Baldwin 5: James Forkin scored seven goals on 11 shots to lead Long Beach in non-league. Thomas Piazza and Mike Breglia each added two goals and Sam Weiss made five saves in the win.Jericho 11, Floral Park 4: Noah Starr scored four goals to lead Jericho in non-league. Cory Cacciola added three goals and two assists, Michael Blumberg scored twice and Ryan Corcoran made 12 saves for the Jayhawks.
Port Washington 10, Locust Valley 2: John Crawley had four goals and two assists and Richard Greenberg had three goals to lead Port Washington in non-league.
Massapequa 11, Carey 0: Ian Kirby had four goals and an assist to lead Massapequa in non-league. Kevin Schirmacher added two goals and an assist, Matt Valdini made three saves and Wyatt Russo had one to combine for the shutout.
Connetquot 6, Eastport-South Manor 5:Mike Sclafani's goal with 2:55 remaining gave Connetquot (1-1) a 6-4 lead in non-league. Tyler Rifice scored two goals and Joe Scocco made 14 saves in the win.
Whitman 10, Harborfields 6: Mitchell Bermudez and Ryan Muhlstock each scored three goals to lead Whitman in non-league. Chris McPartland made five saves in the win.
Bayport-Blue Point 11, Longwood 5: Brian Ward had four goals and three assists to lead Bayport-Blue Point in non-league on Monday. Ryan Hake, Kevin Ward and Jack White each scored twice, and Pat Gerard made four saves in the win.
Mount Sinai 10, Commack 7: Mike Faughnan had three goals and two assists and Dan Bulis two goals and two assists to lead Mount Sinai in non-league.GIRLS LACROSSEDivision 16, Mepham 13: Jess Minuto had five goals and an assist to lead Division in non-league. Arianna Weingrad had two goals and two assists, and her score with 10:43 left gave the Blue Dragons the lead for good. Minuto's goal with 6:54 left in the first half tied the score at 7, after Division had rallied from 5-1 down. Alex Sparrow added two goals and an assist, and Brianna DeMilia made three saves in the win. Oceanside 11, Carle Place 4: Courtney Collins scored five goals to lead Oceanside in non-league. Sydney Oshinsky added three goals, Cassie Cesario scored twice and Lauren Cassidy had seven draw controls.
South Side 14, Calhoun 3: Michaela Lynch scored five goals to lead South Side in non-league. Juliana Pellegrini added three goals, Maggie Cifarelli had a goal and four assists, and Alyssa Knab made eight saves for the Cyclones. Longwood 18, Bellport 11: Alison Johnson scored eight goals for Longwood in non-league. Brianna Sweeney added four goals and Renee Walker made six saves in the win.
Girls trackConnetquot 77, Sachem East 73: Valeria Kudinov won the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches, and anchored the winning 4 x 400-meter relay (4:20.8) to lead Connetquot in League II. Ariel Hendrickson took first in the 100 (12.9) and won the long jump with a leap of 15-10 1/2.
Sachem North 93, Northport 57: Melissa Michels won the 100 meters (13.0 seconds), the 200 (26.6), and the 400 (1:02.9) to lead Sachem North in League II.
