Brianna Carrasquillo scored eight goals to lift Rocky Point over Farmingdale

Rocky Point’s seniors had the day off Saturday, but their younger teammates, led by Brianna Carrasquillo, did just fine in their non-league girls lacrosse game against Farmingdale.
Carrasquillo, a sophomore midfielder, scored eight goals in the Eagles’ 18-9 victory.
“The win is . . . a good start to season,” Carrasquillo said as Rocky Point improved to 3-2. “We had two tough losses early in the week and it feels good to bounce back for a win.”
Carrasquillo scored three times in the first three minutes of the game. Her seventh was an eye-opener, running down field after catching a pass, going one on one with the cage and scoring with two seconds remaining in the first half.
Smartphone cameras weren’t fast enough.
“I knew the half was going to end soon and I wanted to get in one more,” Carrasquillo said. “I think the team really needed that to boost their confidence.”
Another fledgling front-runner is Brianna Lamoureux, who scored four goals and had three assists.
“I’m always trying to score more goals,” Lamoureux said with a laugh.
To coach Dan Spallina, the young Eagles are experts at heart. “[Carrasquillo and Lamoureux] are hardworking kids and their chemistry is unreal,” Spallina said. “The team is super young but experienced with the amount of years they’ve been on varsity.”
Carrasquillo and Lamoureux have been with the Eagles since seventh grade and they’re both making names for themselves. Carrasquillo has racked up 20 goals so far this season and Lamoureux has 10.
After falling behind 4-0, Farmingdale (2-4) came back as Caroline Bleck scored all four of her goals in a three-minute flurry. Catie Fleming added a goal and assisted Bleck on her first goal.
Rocky Point’s Maggie Donohue made 11 saves; Farmingdale’s Reilly Agres stopped eight.
Spallina said the young Eagles are looking toward the playoffs, especially after a tough loss in last season’s Suffolk semifinals. The young grasshoppers are prepared for the challenge.
“They’ve always been a huge part of this team,” said senior Christina Ferrara, who scored three goals. “They’re finally coming out on their own and they’re doing awesome.”
