Briefing tonight in Syosset on synagogue threats
Two Long Island congressmen are hosting a briefing Tuesday night by federal law enforcement officials about potential terrorist threats to synagogues.
The session with security experts from the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. at the Midway Jewish Center, 330 S. Oyster Bay Rd. in Syosset.
“Over the past few months, we have seen an increase in terrorism around the globe, including an attack and attempted attack on Israeli embassy personnel in India and Georgia,” Reps. Steve Israel (D-Dix Hills) and Peter King (R-Seaford) wrote in a letter inviting people to the session. “The purpose of this briefing will be to provide an overview of the current threats within the United States and to discuss efforts by the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation to raise awareness of and protect against those threats.”
People who want to attend can RSVP by calling either Israel’s office at 631-951-2210 or King’s office at 202-225-7896.
