BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Bristol Palin, who made it all the way to third place on "Dancing With the Stars" a few seasons ago, but divided viewers who couldn't decide whether they liked her mother's politics more than her dancing, will be back on the new all-star edition of "Dancing With the Stars."

At the TV critics' summer press tour here, ABC announced Friday the new cast and introduced a handful -- including Palin -- on stage. The eldest daughter of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin attracted an enormous amount of attention -- not all positive -- during her 11th-season run in 2010. Asked why she wanted to endure the spotlight again, she said: "I just think God provides opportunities like this. You can either go out and do them or not do them. The press will be talking about me no matter what, so I might as well have some fun."

Also, in a new twist designed to boost viewer interaction with a hit that lost some mojo last season opposite "The Voice," the show will let fans votes for either Sabrina Bryan, Carson Kressley or Kyle Massey to take the 13th spot in the competition. Of the all-star edition, which will begin Sept. 24, executive producer Conrad Green said the contestants "represent many different types of personalities. We sort of drew up a wish list and pretty much got the wish list." (He declined to say who else had been asked to return.)

The other contestants are: Kirstie Alley, Pamela Anderson, Helio Castroneves, Joey Fatone, Shawn Johnson, Drew Lachey, Gilles Marini, Kelly Monaco, Apolo Anton Ohno, Melissa Rycroft and Emmitt Smith.

In an earlier session, ABC entertainment chief Paul Lee said he was "optimistic" that the salary dispute between producing studio 20th Century Fox TV and five "Modern Family" cast members would be resolved before the hit sitcom's fourth season launches Sept. 26.
