Brookhaven budget may include service cuts
Brookhaven Town Supervisor Mark Lesko plans to unveil his preliminary 2012 budget on Sept. 29.
The budget is likely to include service cuts due to declining revenue and increased costs for health care and pension contributions, Lesko said.
Brookhaven must also adhere to a new state law that limits to 2 percent the amount a town can increase its property tax levy.
Lesko declined to say what kind of services could be cut.
He said he would stay away from suggesting cuts to garbage collection, land acquisitions, road maintenance or the town’s animal shelter.
The town must adopt a budget by Nov. 20. Brookhaven approved its current $260-million budget on Nov. 18 last year.
