The Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton.

Summer is in session at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

The federal facility in Upton will open its doors every Sunday from July 15 to Aug. 5 for family-friendly tours of the grounds.

Each week, a new facility will be showcased. The lab will also offer free science activities and science shows three times a day at Berkner Hall that promise to engage kids while slipping them some knowledge.

This Sunday is Family Exploration Day, with demonstrations of basic scientific theory using magnets and mirrors, and the science show is the “Phenomenal Physics of Mr. Fish.” The tours and activities are available between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., on a first-come, first-served basis.

Visitors older than 16 must bring a photo identification. Food and souvenirs can be bought at Berkner Hall.

The schedule for the rest of the summer, and further information, is available by calling 631-344-2651.
