Chili cooks be warned: A new champ is set to be chosen in Brookhaven.

The Brookhaven Free Library will host a Chili Cook Off at 5 p.m. Saturday featuring 10 cooks and all varieties of chili, said Jamie Papandrea, adult and youth services librarian.

The contest will be judged Saturday by library patrons, Papandrea said, and each person gets one vote. Prizes are awarded for first, second and third place.

She said each cook will bring in a lasagna tray of their special-recipe chili that will be labeled with a letter and tasted by each patron. After the votes have been counted, everyone is welcome to finish off the leftovers, she said.

“It’s a fun, relaxing event at the library for our adult patrons after library hours,” she said.

Though the cooks have already been chosen, the event is open to the public, including nondistrict residents.

The Brookhaven Free Library is located at 273 Beaver Dam Rd., Brookhaven. For more information, call 631-286-1923.
