A Brookhaven Town effort to crack down on pool safety has netted five violations since June 13, town officials said.

The town’s Quality of Life Task Force is inspecting backyard pools and issuing citations to owners who are out of compliance, officials said. The task force has issued violations in North Patchogue, Mastic, Port Jefferson Station, Miller Place and Coram, officials said.

Violations have been issued for such infractions as lack of proper fencing and improper pool gates, officials said, and owners were issued court appearance tickets.

Town and state codes include “very specific rules and regulations regarding swimming pool safety such as pool alarms, secure fencing, anti-entrapment devices, self-closing and self-latching gates,” town spokesman Jack Krieger said in a statement.
