Kait Brosco has had her share of big moments for Shoreham-Wading River girls lacrosse. The Notre Dame-bound senior has been on the team for five years and was the MVP of last season's state tournament.
But in all her years, Brosco never topped the 11 points she put up in yesterday's 13-10 non-league victory over Bay Shore. Brosco finished with six goals and five assists.
"She was involved in 11 of our 13 goals," SWR coach Bob Vlahakis said. "That's enough said right there."
The win was SWR's 33rd straight against New York opponents. Chelsey Newman and Jen DeVito each had three goals and one assist for the Wildcats (4-0).
SWR led 10-5 at halftime, but Bay Shore scored the first three goals of the second half to pull within two with 16 minutes left. Brosco connected with DeVito for the eventual game-winner a minute later.
Brosco also helped give the Wildcats an extra cushion heading into the break. Bay Shore's Caroline deLyra (four goals, one assist) scored to make it 8-5 with 1:55 left in the first. It looked like it might stay that way, but the Wildcats scored two goals in the final 33 seconds, starting with a free-position goal from Brosco. Bay Shore (3-1) won the ensuing faceoff but Shoreham made a steal and pushed the ball between four midfielders until Brosco found DeVito with seven seconds remaining.
"I have to watch the tape to figure out exactly what happened," Vlahakis said. "I think I looked up and there were 13 seconds on the clock."
SWR goalie Erin McMullan made 11 saves and five of her goals against came on free-position situations.
Said Vlahakis: "That was her best career game for Shoreham-Wading River for sure."
