Bruins rally from 3-1 deficit in third period
The Boston Bruins rallied from two goals down yesterday and avoided a two-game deficit against the Montreal Canadiens.
Reilly Smith scored the go-ahead goal with 3:32 left and host Boston scored four times in eight minutes to beat the Canadiens, 5-3, and tie their Eastern Conference semifinal series at one game apiece.
"It was a fun last part of the third period," said Torey Krug, who set up Smith's goal. "We're very excited with how things turned out, but we've got to move along from it pretty soon."
Last year, the Bruins trailed Toronto by three goals with 11 minutes left in Game 7 of their first-round series before winning in overtime.
"The experience of going through this a lot the last few years helps a lot," forward Shawn Thornton said.
The Bruins trailed 3-1 with just over nine minutes remaining before Dougie Hamilton scored. Patrice Bergeron tied it with 5:43 left and Reilly wristed a cross-ice pass from Krug past Carey Price to give Boston the lead. Milan Lucic added an empty-net goal.
Kings 3, Ducks 2: Marian Gaborik scored with seven seconds left in regulation to force overtime, then scored 12:07 into the extra period in Game 1 in Anaheim.
The Ducks appeared poised for a win after 43-year-old Teemu Selanne beat Jonathan Quick between the pads for a go-ahead goal with 11:52 to play in regulation.
Subban rejects tweets
Montreal defenseman P.K. Subban, who is black, says he doesn't blame the Boston Bruins or their fans for racist tweets directed at him after Game 1 of their NHL playoff series.
Subban said, "It's completely unfair for anybody to point the finger at the organization or the fan base." Subban scored two goals in Game 1.-- AP
