Attention Long Island Rail Road customers on the East End: Buses will replace train service between Speonk and Montauk from tomorrow through Friday as the railroad works on the next phase of a $22.4-million rehabilitation project of three bridges.

Here’s more from the LIRR:

"The track outages will mean significant schedule changes for Montauk branch customers during peak and off-peak periods.

The work on the Shinnecock Canal Bridge, the North Highway Bridge and the Montauk Highway Bridge, all located in Hampton Bays, will require the LIRR to take the single main track between Speonk and Montauk out of service for 72 hours from 2:13 a.m. Tuesday until 2:30 a.m. Friday.

Allow Extra Time for Travel

Westbound
The outage will affect approximately 364 westbound customers from stations Montauk through Westhampton. They will board buses on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 40 minutes earlier than regular train time to travel to Speonk where trains will take them to points west.

Eastbound
The outage will affect approximately 413 daily customers who will board buses at Speonk for service to stations Westhampton through Montauk on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Expect up to 40 minutes of additional travel time.

AM and PM Peak Service
Rush hour customers are reminded that buses will replace the following peak trains between Speonk and Montauk.

Montauk:
Westbound
The 5:39 a.m. train from Montauk scheduled to arrive in Speonk at 6:49 a.m. will instead originate from Speonk on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Eastbound
The 6:17 p.m. train from Jamaica will terminate at Speonk at 7:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Additional Track Work at Crossing in Southampton
With train service suspended along this segment of the Montauk branch, the LIRR will take advantage of the track time to reconstruct the railroad crossing on Montauk Highway near Flying Point Road to accommodate plans of the Town of Southampton to widen Montauk Highway. As a result, Montauk Highway will be closed to vehicular traffic at that juncture on Tuesday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 13."
